MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 365

Welcome to the 365th edition of Phish.Net's Mystery Jam Monday, the first* and easiest of March! The winner will receive an MP3 download code courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. To win, be the first person to identify the song and date of the mystery clip. Each person gets one guess to start – if no one answers correctly in the first 24 hours, I'll post a hint. After the hint, everyone gets one more guess before Wednesday at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET. Good luck!

*Reminder: For the first MJM of each month, only folks who have never won an MJM are allowed to answer before the hint. If you have never won an MJM, please answer as a blog comment below. If you have previously won an MJM, but you'd like to submit a guess before the hint, you may do so by PMing me; once the hint has been posted, everyone should answer on the blog. If that's confusing to you, check out the handy decision tree that @ucpete threw together to help guide you. If you're not sure if you've won before, check in the MJM Results spreadsheet linked below.

Answer: After being an active member of the MJM guessing crew for the better part of a decade, @drshaws only needed 3½ hours to break on through to the other side and snag his very first MJM win! This week, he made quick work of the "I Am Not 'I Am Hydrogen'" jam, identifying the 6/10/12 "Tweezer" from Phish's most recent appearance at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, where Phish will headline this summer instead of playing the Bay Area. Swing on by next week for MJM366 – will @drshaws go animal style and take down a double double?

whatstheuse324 Congratulations @DRSHAWS. I was way off. I heard that little rhythm Fishman was playing and I felt like it could have been a precursor to an I Am Hydrogen. I’ve been looking at Hydrogens from the last 25 years all day, which led me to discover the 8/1/99 version from Japan.

I know that show was just featured in one of the TTB articles, but I noticed that this particular Hydrogen is not featured on the official jam chart. It clocks in at 8:42 minutes and is very unique version. It begins with a jam that builds for the first five minutes before it actually becomes the I Am Hydrogen proper. The powers that be should give this one a second look.

8/1/99 is a pretty slamming show. It kind of reminds me of 1/15/17 in that it’s got jams but no “all timers,” the set list is stacked, and it’s just a good high octane outing.

That is a sweet jam, but it’s actually kind of up for debate whether that’s still Mike’s Song or not. The recording obviously includes it as Hydro. But .net has it as a 14 minute Mike’s, which *is* on the jam chart. Either way, the piece of music itself is fantastic, and it does get its due on the chart.

It's not really up for debate – it's totally Mike's Song and a simple mistracking by the taper. Still a glorious transition regardless – always love a good Mike's -> H2!

drshaws Thanks for the nice write up! It's taken a while, and I was finally glad to have the sleuthing pay off this week. In the words of the Woo Hoo Guy (who I last spied at Fenway '09) - Woo Hoo!

I was thinking the same thing. It must mean they're saving up for 14 consecutive shows at the BCGA, right?!?!?!
