CURVEBALL: PHOTOJOURNALISM OF A DREAM

An incredible amount of time, effort, and passion was invested building an experience for Phish's planned Curveball festival this weekend, before it was cancelled. Fan Adam Dyda was on site to capture the eerie, almost Scott Haefner-like quality of the unpopulated environment, and we're honored to be able to share some of his pictures here (17 total), to honor those who worked so hard to make Curveball what it was meant to be.

If you liked this blog post, one way you could "like" it is to make a donation to The Mockingbird Foundation, the sponsor of Phish.net. Support music education for children, and you just might change the world.

jackl We were among the first and last customers served delicious crepes and coffee at the Farmhaus restaurant supposed to be open at 2 pm on Wednesday, when the grounds were briefly opened around 3 - 5 pm on Thursday (a couple gates were open, most were still guarded by clueless security staff who were waiting for radio instructions, kinda chaotic).

And here's our flag flying over our RV on Wednesday. Support courtesy of National Rent-A-Fence. Good times, Good times.

Props to the donut vendor from Corning with the deeply fried and discounted donuts for a memorable festival. The last rock festival that will ever be held at Watkins Glen International.

jackl PHOTOJOURNALISM OF A DREAM A CLUSTERFSCK. There, I fixed it for you.

BTW, one of the weirdest things about this was that there was no announcement to anyone already on site of the cancellation. No one going through the campgrounds with a bullhorn, no flyers, no one on traffic or security guiding people out of there leaving the festival. You found out by people with their smartphones still on who were reading Twitter or other social media chitchat about the cancellation. I'm sure there were some non-English speaking campers who were totally mystified why everyone was packing up and leaving,

This weekend would have been so cool. Imagine the lights shooting onto that giant silver ball and reflecting into the sky...

ughk.

justinofhudson Honestly I feel most awful for the Band, and I feel really bad for myself and everyone else. They try so hard to never screw over their fans and recognize how much people give to see them, unlike so many in the entertainment industry. It really sucks this happened to them and this community in particular. Maybe we are best able to deal with it though... either way it’s tough.

Enjoyed looking at the pictures and what could have been this weekend! I wish they at least let us in the venue Friday night to see all this in person, oh well.

I found that very weird myself. Everything was word of mouth. They didn't even send an email out to all ticket holders or a phish update email announcing the cancellation. If I hadn't had buddies that happen to hear about it I would never have known. (I don't check Facebook or Phish.com regularly)

GAphishin A Ghostival! what sad and unfortunate news for an incredible dreamlike setting.

My heart goes out to all who were so close and yet so far. May the music Gods play on for you in your endless dreams.
