VIDEO OF THE WEEK: RIFT "FAST" DEBUT 1992-03-06

Another debut in My Friend, My Friend opened up the second set. After a Poor Heart, the band decided to teach fans their Secret Language. The band taught the crowd Charlie Chan, Simpsons, Me and My Arrow (Asshole in the Front Row), Don't Mean a Thing, Random Note, All Fall Down, and Turn Turn Turn while Bowie was played in the background. Mound debuted after Stash and a few songs later is the debut of NICU. Possum included four signals to close the set. Sleeping Monkey debuted as the sole encore. Overall a very historic Phish show including a bunch of classic debuts and a plethora of secret language including the instructions. Thanks to Dave again for uploading this awesome video!

Every Friday, we highlight a video with a brief recap of the show it is from and what makes it interesting, noteworthy or simply fun. With the help of Dan Saewitz from Phishvids.com, we hope to keep the stream of videos coming at you entertaining and interesting. Have a cool video you’d like to suggest? Matt_Leaf Nice find! I miss those Minkins.

Any way we can get the video to not be "private"?

uuggghh, sorry. Must have still been in cache or something. I mistook the fact that it was a Private Video with one that was unpublished. Should be made public shortly. Thanks for the patience and sorry for the inconvenience and confusion. Please check back soon!

PeterPhan This show, along with 03/13 and 04/15, has always been one of my favorites from '92.

Great to see this!

jdrueke That's awesome. The first song from my first show. That experience really changed me forever. An amazing, if somewhat blurry, memory. Thank you very much for sharing this.

DollarBill Great stuff here, too bad there isn't more focus overall. Funny how slow Rift used to be at first. Also Trey doesn't have his set solo yet so it's interesting to hear him improv over the progression instead.

Keep 'em coming! I would love to see more.

psuphan Great video! It just dawned on me that during this tour these guys put on 54 shows in 74 days, covered thousands of miles, and pumped out a decent amount of new material!!! Really puts into perspective the dedication and hard work they've put into the craft all of these years and that's just one of a dozen examples of incredible tours. Unreal!

Telekinetica Here is some updated info on the video and audio source. This show was video taped by Ezekial Vaughn with a Sony Sports Handycam with tripod. Thank you Zeke!
Audio Source: Purported SBD / Cass/1 / DAT
Transfer: CTD8000H-S / DAT2WAV / SHN / SF4.5c (48/44.1kHz*) / CD Wave / shntool / FLAC
Primary transfer by Robert Brown
Resampling, tracking and fixes by Ben Mohr (benjamin.mohr@ce.gatech.edu)
Pitched-corrected on 7/16/2004 by Mike Wren (mw@mikewren.com)

Zeke emailed me and told me some factoids about the tape only the taper would know. If anybody else knows the original taper of a video I've posted, please forward them my email address. I would really like to list credit where credit is due. Obviously, all credit goes to the audio and video tapers who have made these clips possible. I'm just dusting these things off and applying a little alchemy to improve the video and sound so these clips can be represented well on the net and youtube as part of the bands history. And help some phans (including myself) relive some memories that are burned into our DNA.

Purple_Humpback_Whale where can i hear a slow rift?
, comment by mikeyfreshh
mikeyfreshh @ Purple Humback Whale -- The slow "Rift" is the prejam segment of "With" from "Curtain With."
